Finally, the clouds are building, marking the end of the good weather and time to leave France. Enfin, les nuages s'amoncellent, marquant la fin du beau temps et le temps de quitter la France.
14th October 2023: autumn is arriving
The weather has been glorious but the autumn colours are starting to arrive. Le temps a été magnifique mais les couleurs d'automne commencent à arriver.
13th October 2023: it’s a long way
It’s a long way to Santiago and we are sorry to end our walk so soon. Le chemin jusqu’à Saint-Jacques est long et nous sommes désolés de terminer notre promenade si tôt.
12th October 2023: chateau in the rocks
We walk under the cliffs and see an old chateau built into the rocks. Nous marchons sous les falaises et voyons un vieux château construit dans la roche.
11th October 2023: shepherd’s hut
On our route we pass an old shepherd’s hut. Sur notre route, nous passons devant une borie – une ancienne cabane de berger.
10th October 2023: water point
We spend a few days walking on the Compostella. It is very hot and we are grateful for this water point. Nous passons quelques jours à marcher sur la Compostelle. Il fait très chaud et nous sommes reconnaissants pour ce point d'eau.
9th October 2023: free ear plugs
At an old lock, we pass some construction works and there are free ear plugs for passersby. A une ancienne écluse, nous passons devant des travaux de construction et des bouchons d'oreille sont mis gratuitement à la disposition des passants.
8th October 2023: river walk
We take a walk along the river along a famous towpath. Nous faisons une promenade le long de la rivière par un chemin de halage réputé.
1st October 2023: salamander in cave
We have another visitor to the house – we discover a salamander in our garage / cave. Nous recevons un autre visiteur à la maison – nous découvrons une salamandre dans notre cave.
27th September 2023: dog with sheep
We are surprised to see a dog lying with the sheep. He lives with the flock and guards them. Nous sommes surpris de voir un chien couché avec les moutons. Il vit avec le troupeau et le garde.
20th September 2023: fortified bridge
We also visit the Pont Valentre, a famous fortified medieval bridge in Cahors. Nous visitons aussi le Pont Valentre, célèbre pont médiéval fortifié de Cahors.
19th September 2023: favourite village
We take a friend to visit St Cirq Lapopie, one of the prettiest villages in France. Nous emmenons un ami visiter St Cirq Lapopie, l'un des plus beaux villages de France.
17th September 2023: bat on veranda
We are back in the Lot and we have a new visitor in our house – a little bat which has taken up residence on our veranda. Nous sommes de retour dans le Lot et nous avons un nouveau visiteur dans notre maison : une petite chauve-souris qui a élu domicile dans notre bolet.
