Life in the Lot is full of surprises. We have been visiting this area of France for over 25 years and it never ceases to delight. It’s the end of our holiday and we are going home but, already, we are looking forward to our next visit. C’est la fin de nos vacances et nous rentrons chez nous mais, déjà, nous attendons avec impatience notre prochaine visite.
30th May 2024: a new village
We visit a nearby village which has a lovely circular walk and a restaurant. Nous visitons un village voisin qui possède une belle promenade circulaire et un restaurant.
26th May 2024: election time
It’s time to elect the French members of the European parliament. A record 38 French parties are fielding candidates, but only one puts up a poster in our village. Il est temps d’élire les députés français au Parlement européen. Un nombre record de 38 partis français présentent des candidats, mais un seul met une affiche dans notre village.
20th May 2024: beautiful rainbow
The weather is still very variable, but, after a storm, the sun came out along with a beautiful rainbow. Le temps est encore très variable, mais après une tempête, le soleil est revenu accompagné d'un bel arc-en-ciel.
11th May 2024: traffic calming
The road through our village has very little traffic, but we now have speed restrictions with a lot of signs! La route qui traverse notre village est très peu fréquentée, mais nous avons désormais des limitations de vitesse avec de nombreux panneaux !
7th May 2024: it's raining again
The rain continues and the streams and rivers are full of water. La pluie continue et les ruisseaux et rivières sont remplis d'eau.
6th May 2024: now we are 140
Our address was 4, but now we are 140, meaning that we are 140 metres from the start of our road. Notre adresse était 4, mais maintenant nous sommes 140, ce qui veut dire que nous sommes à 140 mètres du début de notre route.
4th May 2024: mating snails
Spring must be in the air because the snails are mating. Le printemps doit être dans l'air car les escargots s'accouplent.
28th April 2024: first shop
We visit the Saturday market in Cahors and come away with lots of lovely things. Nous visitons le marché du samedi à Cahors et repartons avec plein de belles choses.
25th April 2024: spring markets (poster)
It’s cold and wet but, despite the weather, the spring markets are still going ahead. Il fait froid et humide mais, malgré le temps, les marchés de printemps continuent.
23rd April 2024: haircuts
The plane trees leading to our house have been pruned – the first time in 20 years. Les platanes qui mènent à notre maison ont été taillés – la première fois depuis 20 ans.
22nd April 2024: upside-down
We have arrived in the Lot and most of the village signs are upside-down, because the farmers are protesting. Nous sommes arrivés dans le Lot et la plupart des panneaux du village sont à l'envers, car les agriculteurs protestent.
