After the heatwave, summer has arrived early and it is time to return back to the UK. Après la canicule, l'été est arrivé plus tôt que prévu et il est temps de rentrer au Royaume-Uni.
1st June 2026: the bat is back
For a couple of days, our little bat roosts on the rafters of our veranda. Pendant quelques jours, notre petite chauve-souris a élu domicile sur les poutres de notre véranda.
30th May 2026: village clean-up
I help with the village clean-up by tidying up the lavoir. Je participe au nettoyage du village en rangeant le lavoir.
27th May 2026: unusual orchid
I find an unusual bee orchid in the church garden. J'ai trouvé une orchidée abeille inhabituelle dans le jardin de l'église.
26th May 2026: heat wave
Suddenly it is very hot and I am glad that I am no longer walking on the Compostella. Soudain, il fait très chaud et je suis content de ne plus marcher sur le Compostelle.
25th May 2026: ready to fledge
The black redstarts in a nest on our covered veranda are nearly ready to fledge. Les rouges-queues noirs qui nichent sur notre véranda couverte sont presque prêts à prendre leur envol.
22nd May 2026: iconic bridge
We have lunch with friends in Cahors opposite the famous ‘pont Valentre’. Nous déjeunons avec des amis à Cahors, en face du célèbre pont Valentre.
19th May 2026: butterflies in the meadows
After some mixed weather, the sun has come out and the butterflies too. Après une période de temps changeant, le soleil est de retour, et les papillons aussi.
13th May 2026: walking on the Compostella
I have been away for two weeks walking along the Compostella from Puy-en-Velay to Conques. It’s good to return to the valley of the Lot! J'ai passé deux semaines à parcourir le chemin de Compostelle, de Puy-en-Velay à Conques. Quel plaisir de retrouver la vallée du Lot !
1st May 2026: cows in the valley
I walk down the valley and the cows follow me. Je descends la vallée et les vaches me suivent.
28th April 2026: green and leafy
The oak trees are already in leaf and the lanes look fresh and green. Les chênes sont déjà feuillus et les allées ont l'air fraîches et verdoyantes.
27th April 2026: hay-making already
The farmers are making hay already and there are lots of black kites following the tractor. Les agriculteurs font déjà les foins et de nombreux milans noirs suivent le tracteur.
24th April 2026: first orchid hunt
We go on our first orchid hunt. We find plenty but perhaps not as many as in previous years. Nous partons pour notre première chasse aux orchidées. Nous en trouvons beaucoup, mais peut-être pas autant que les années précédentes.
23rd April 2026: wisteria
Our wisteria is truly magnificent this year. Notre glycine est vraiment magnifique cette année.
22nd April 2026: dandelions
The dandelions have finished flowering and the seed heads make a fine show. Les pissenlits ont fini de fleurir et leurs graines offrent un beau spectacle.
21st April 2026: boulangerie
We stop for our first visit to the boulangerie and enjoy a cup of coffee and a pain au raisins. Nous nous arrêtons pour notre première visite à la boulangerie et savourons une tasse de café et un pain aux raisins.
20th April 2026: beautiful weather
We arrive for our holiday in beautiful weather. It feels more like summer rather than early spring. Nous arrivons en vacances sous un soleil radieux. On se croirait en été plutôt qu'au début du printemps.
